Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current and valid Sign Language Interpreter certification or applicable credentials
- Demonstrated experience interpreting within educational settings, preferably at the secondary level
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong grasp of technical and academic vocabulary
- Ability to adapt interpreting styles to address subject matter in a range of core high school classes
- Confidence in supporting students’ communication needs both inside and outside the classroom
- Professionalism, reliability, and a collaborative approach to working with students and educational staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for a high school student
- Ensure accurate delivery of technical terminology in subjects such as Algebra, English, and History
- Facilitate communication between the student, peers, and teachers in various educational contexts
- Offer interpreting support during extracurricular activities or specialized academic meetings as needed
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to address the evolving needs of the student
